faves Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 17, 2026

faves ("the app") is operated by Spencer Klein ("we"). This policy describes what the app does with your information.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and the content you add (your faves, pile items, notes, and photos) and store it on our servers (Firebase, operated by Google) so it can sync across your devices and be visible to people who follow you. Large photos stay on your device only.

Third-party services

If you paste a link from another app, the app fetches that page to pull its title and picture. Nothing about you is sent with that request.

Crash reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, a report with the device model, iOS version, app version and the error goes to Sentry (sentry.io) so we can fix it. Reports carry a random device id, not your name or email.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, a device token is stored on our servers so friends' likes, comments and messages can reach your phone. Delivery goes through Expo's push service. Turn it off any time in iOS Settings.

Pictures pulled from links are loaded from the site the link points to. These requests are ordinary web requests and are subject to that site's own policies.

Finding friends

If you allow contacts access, the app turns each email address and phone number in your contacts into a scrambled fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) on your phone, and sends only those fingerprints to our servers to see which of your contacts already use faves. Your contacts themselves are never uploaded or stored. So that friends can find you the same way, a fingerprint of your own account email is stored, and of your phone number if you choose to enter it at sign-up. The phone number itself is never stored. Contacts access and the phone number are both optional.

Photos

If you add your own photo to an item, the app asks for photo library access. Photos under 900KB sync to our servers so they show up across your devices and to people who follow you; larger photos stay on your device only.

Data deletion

Settings → delete account permanently erases your content from our servers and your device.

Children

faves is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

We'll update this policy before any future version changes what we collect, and re-declare the app's App Store privacy label at that time.
